Temporomandibular / TMJ Treatment

ARC’s TMJ Pain Treatment Program is designed to teach proper neck/jaw postures as well as to provide neuromuscular tension release through state of the art treatment techniques. The temporomandibular (TMJ) joint is located anterior to the ear and is defined as the connection of the temporal bone, the bone that forms the side of the skull, and the mandible, the lower jaw bone. There is a small cartilaginous disc that separates these two bones so that they slide smoothly while talking, eating and swallowing. When there is poor alignment or mechanics due to injury, weakness, arthritis, chronic grinding or chewing pain results due to a displacement of the disc as it compresses on the sensory nerves. Pain can be elicited as ear, jaw, neck, head or shoulder pain and tinnitus. Consult with an ARC physical therapist today!
